CEDAW, the United Nations Convention on the Eliminate of all forms of Discrimination Against Women, is an international bill of rights for women and girls. In 1998, San Francisco became the first city in the world to adopt a local CEDAW ordinance.
The CEDAW Women’s Human Rights Awards presented by the FRIENDS of the Commission on the Status of Women honor leaders and organizations who use their public roles to advance the rights of women and girls. Awards are given for leadership demonstrated in diverse sectors of the community including education, entrepreneurship, government, health, labor, media and philanthropy.
Proceeds from the event benefit programs and initiatives that support the work of the San Francisco Commission and Department on the Status of Women including stopping violence against women, eliminating human trafficking, and promoting gender equity.

Our Mission Statement
Inspiring an Equal Future: To lead change so that women and girls have equal opportunity and are free from violence
What We Do
The Friends support programs that ensure equal treatment of women and girls, especially initiatives that foster their socioeconomic, political and educational advancement through policies, legislation and programs with a focus for women and girls in need. We organized events in the community to raise awareness and funds to stop violence against women, eliminate human trafficking, and promoted gender equity.
